Tertulia Museum – Modern Art in Cali
The Museo de Tertulia first opened its doors in 1956 in the residential neighborhood of Barrio San Antonio, before moving to its present location in El Peñon in 1968. It’s the first Modern Art Gallery in El Valle de Cauca, the state to which Calí is the capital city.
Home to over 1500 pieces of artwork, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs and videos. Unique about the pieces is that 80% are works on paper. These art pieces are highly sensitive to the conditions such as lighting and humidity, and therefore are rotated every 4 months, with other pieces to keep them fresh and free from deterioration.

In addition to the Modern Art Museum, the grounds is home to a Cinema which hosts events every day of the week, including a free event on Mondays. An open-air theater sits at the back side of the grounds where local shows are often performed.
The grounds are really nice place to spend some time, just strolling around and admiring the architecture. A lush backdrop and preserved green space on the side with benches, provide a nice little get away, right in the middle of the city.
There’s currently a tree house set up on the grounds (October 2014) but no one was around to give us any information on it. We’ll give an update when we find out what it’s all about. Til then travelers…
